Hutchhouse kicks off the first Creative Clinic at Milton Park – 29th May 07:30 – 09:00 featured image

Having moved into Milton Park earlier this year we’ve had our heads down, cracking on with our work and generally settling in. However, it soon occurred to us that there wasn’t a massive amount of creative ‘get togethers’ happening on the Park so we decided that the only thing to do was to create our own.

Milton Park is massive, there’s over 150 businesses here and some 7,000 people working on the Park making it one of the biggest in Europe and in-keeping with the trend here in Oxfordshire, many of them are science based.

There’s seem seriously intense stuff going on here.

Sharp, lightweight font icons

Sharp, lightweight font icons featured image

Recently there has been a growing trend to use font icons when designing websites. But what is the advantage of using a set of font based icons over images and why now?

Fonts that contain icons have been around for a long time. Webdings was created for distribution with Internet Explorer 4 back in 1997. However, until quite recently, images have been the most widely used option for creating web icons due to their versatility and near infinite customisation compared to the limited choices of quality icon fonts. So what’s changed?

Responsive Web Design is the latest buzz-word when it comes to designing and developing websites. It’s not a completely new thing, and most agencies worth their salt will have been rolling out responsive websites for a while now, but it’s fast becoming standard practice so if you are a business owner planning to get a new website then you need to know about it.

Social Media, Marketing & PR talk at University College Birmingham featured image

Back in June Hutchhouse was invited to give a talk at University College Birmingham. Having stumbled across our company, lecturer and Year Manager Jo Bates called us to ask if anyone would be interested in helping out with one of the workshops taking place in November by giving an hour-long presentation.

As part of their course, students studying at the School of Hospitality, Food and Events faculty pulled together to organise the convention. This gave them the opportunity to invite guest speakers to the University and discuss life after higher education. Naturally we were honoured to have been asked so we sent @benhutchins – our Creative Director – to do the talking.

MrColor – A PHP colour manipulation library featured image

Over the last month I’ve been working a colour manipulation library for PHP called MrColor. Please forgive the American spelling, it is the language of the web after all.

The library is built around the idea of having an easy way to work with colour data. Once a new Color object is created you can populate it with colour values, edit those values, use those values to generate new data, and retrieve the colour in the format you require. You can download it or fork it from GitHub here:

Hutchhouse win Best Overall Business award, 2012

Hutchhouse win Best Overall Business award, 2012 featured image

Last month Hutchhouse was delighted to have been nominated for an award. As it turned out on the night… we won!

The evening was organised by Inca Accountants who are a major player for all things accountancy related. They have a huge client list and help dozens of small businesses in the Oxfordshire area. Their approach is both professional and personal which is why we’ve stuck with them for all these years. We take great comfort knowing our accounts are safe in their hands.

After 10 years in business Inca threw a black-tie event to celebrate their own success and to thank their customers. A fantastic meal was laid-on before the nominations were announced. It came as a pleasant surprise to have won the category for ‘Best Overall Business’ – just look at the smiles on those faces.

Being recognised for your hard work and  continued business growth is always a great thing, so we have to thank the great team we have built up at Hutchhouse. We think we constitute the best digital agency in Oxfordshire and rival the very best in the country.

It’s been a great boost to the team and we’re over the moon to have this award. Thanks Inca!
