Increasing website traffic through social media
They may seem to be the sort of websites that friends use to communicate with each other but social media plays an important business aspect as well. In the last six years the use of social media has almost quadrupled providing a free means for businesses to reach millions of people. Many users of social media are there to talk to friends. With the right attitude you can infiltrate a market of casual users by introducing your business into these discussions. Social media isn’t a fad; it’s a revolution.
What is Social Media?
Social media is always used as a buzz word when marketing experts try to sell you their services. It is often not well explained exactly what social media is though. You should not be put off by those who make social media appear like some sort of voodoo. There are many reasons why people are put off by the thought of using social media and we hear these reasons all the time from business owners, friends and family. Questions we mainly get asked are: What social media platforms are out there and where can I find them? What is social media for? Can anyone do it? Is it free to join? Who am I speaking to when I use social media? There are many social media platforms out there but this blog post will focus on Twitter and Facebook. We will give you and your business in-depth knowledge on why you should not be ignoring social media. You should be putting these services to good use to promote your business on a daily basis.
Why is it important to use Social Media?
Through social media you can reach a worldwide audience. Unlike putting an ad in a newspaper which has a limited audience. Social media is also free to use unlike most advertising platforms. You can increase your brand awareness by engaging and talking to people whom you know are already interested because of their own contributions to the network. However, it is important not to fall into the habit of constantly promoting services or products without also socialising with other members of the community because people become disinterested very quickly. Social media is a two way street in which those who attempt to only take from the community through continual advertisements become outcasts and ignored. You must give a little in order to reap rewards. By engaging with people and answering any questions they may have about your services or products you can build up your target audience very quickly, generating leads and driving traffic to your website. Social media has real business value.
How effective is Social Media for my business?
The simple answer is “very effective” but I don’t expect you to take our word for it: We prefer that we give you hard facts.

How much time do I need to invest in this?
Social media does not have to be a chore, it is something that you should integrate into your working day. If done properly you will not notice the time spent posting to social media as it will be an enjoyable experience. Whenever you find something that interests you and is related to your business you should share it. This might be a news article that inspires your followers; images that relate to your business such as photographing new products; answering a question from one of your customers; or just simply saying good morning. You are increasing your social visibility and engaging with your audience. Almost every website invites the visitor to view their Facebook and Twitter pages and encourages them to leave a comment or a tweet. If your website does not have easy access buttons for visitors to “Like” your site on Facebook or “Tweet” your site to Twitter you are missing out on the opportunity to get free and effortless recommendation of your business to their friends.
Social Media Apps
One of the main reasons that people don’t want to use social media is the inconvenience of taking up the working day and having to remember to visit websites on a regular basis. If you have a smart phone or tablet then you can download one of the free apps to allow you to update social media quickly and on the move. Time otherwise wasted on train journeys and whilst between meetings etc. can be put to good use on your device. Another advantage of this is that you will be instantly notified by the app when you receive new messages from other users. For convenience we have listed the links below for the official apps for the iPhone and iPad.
Social media is the use of tools on the web to communicate with people in a social way. By harnessing social media you quickly engage a large community of people who are interested in your products and services. Statistic show that businesses using social media effectively generate more leads and target a larger number of people then those who don’t.
